The first visible sign of the new railway was construction of a gentle ramp of gravel from the driveway into the garage. The planned 9 m of track inside the garage will provide a storage space for rollingstock and also allow recharging of the battery electric locomotive.
A few days later, heavy rain revealed a drainage problem, so a channel was dug to accommodate a short length of 60 mm diameter slotted drain pipe.
About 25 m further up the drive, another slight embankment was required where the track alignment diverged from the driveway into a lawn area, snaking between a couple of trees. This time, the drainage was included from the outset.
