Track Plan

The track plan as envisaged in May 2023 detailed the planned construction in 2 stages.  Stage 1 was completed in October 2023.  

A further delivery of track in December 2023 allowed a start to be made on Stage 2 which was completed on 8 February 2024, with the exception of the passing loop near the dam.  

The Stage 2 tracklaying progressed steadily in a clockwise direction from a new turnout near the drive past the gazebo, through trees and garden areas along the south side of the property, past the dam and small pond to the fruit trees.

The left-hand turnout previously located near the garage was relocated to the northern end of a passing loop near the dam.  Initially, this was laid as a dead-end siding and a right-hand turnout was later installed at the southern end to complete the passing loop.

During 2025, an idea developed to construct an additional loop of track around the dam at the south-west corner of the property, where the ground is fairly level and conducive to railway development.  A further order of track, including 5 turnouts, arrived in October 2025 and construction steadily progressed until May 2026.

Included in the new plan is a triangle, to the north of Springdale Station, which allows the direction of trains to be reversed.  Originally, the triangle was going to be situated to the south of Springdale Station (shown as a thin black line on the track plan below) but this area proved difficult as it is quite waterlogged in winter.  

One of the new turnouts also serves a short siding near the front gate.  This siding has been used for ballast loading during construction activities and can be adapted in the future for loading or unloading of locomotives and rollingstock.

Part of the new loop of track required construction of a bridge over one corner of the dam, where water drained from the garden areas flows into the dam.  

Together with the triangle, the new loop adds about 85 metres of track to the previously existing 300 metres.  As of May 2026, the new loop and triangle are trafficable but work some finishing work is still required on the bridge and detection switches and point indicators are yet to be added to the new turnouts at Springdale Station.
